Veg Oil Motoring is an enterprise which is committed to reducing carbon dioxide emissions through the use of straight vegetable oil (SVO) as a vehicle fuel. We offer competitively priced vehicle conversions that allow vehicles and other diesel engines to run on straight vegetable oil. We also sell duty paid refined used cooking oil (not to be confused with biodiesel) which is probably the most carbon neutral fuel for adapted, standard vehicles.
Veg Oil Motoring has championed this technology in the UK, and especially Wales, over the last 5 years. We were the first to drive from Lands End to John O’ Groats on pure vegetable oil.
Why Run your car on vegetable Oil?
It’s a cheaper fuel than either diesel or petrol and it could increase the power performance of your car. It is currently legal to walk into most major supermarkets in the UK and buy vegetable oil to use as a vehicle fuel with out paying any duty – provided this is for small scale use (See legality and fuel section). Specially refined used cooking oil is also a fuel option on many converted vehicles and this fuel can be currently purchased from us, fuel duty included, for 90p/l.
Independent research has shown that rather than decreasing performance, cars that are converted to run on pure vegetable oil have an increased power performance as compared to diesel over most speeds.
However there are more important reasons than plain economics and performance for using vegetable oil as a fuel:
For all those who worry about pumping carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every time they get in a car, using vegetable oil as a fuel could be the solution to your dilemma. Chances are we will all get very old, and the planet a whole lot warmer, if we wait for the motor industry to gets its act together and produce a hydrogen or an electric car that really works and is cost effective. However running a diesel car on vegetable oil is an easily achievable reality for those wanting carbon neutral motoring today.
Thousands of people especially in Germany and the rest of Continental Europe are already running their converted vehicles on vegetable oil. This technology is not new and is in fact a renaissance. Only four years after Dr Rudolf Diesel produced his first functional prototype, diesel engines were being successfully run on straight vegetable oil. In 1912 Diesel said, “The use of vegetable oils for engine fuels may seem insignificant today. But such oils may become in the course of time as important as petroleum products of the present time.” Dr Diesel was an inventor of great vision and now finally his predictions regarding straight vegetable oil can be seen to share that same insight.
